The NPI is a specialized center in Amsterdam, Amersfoort and Utrecht for the treatment of people with personality problems. We work from a development-oriented psychodynamic vision.
Diagnosing a personality disorder or personality problem is complex. Also, you should never see that as a label for your whole life. On the contrary, often the image and/or the burden you have of it changes during life. Symptoms can decrease with treatment.
What is a personality disorder?
Everyone has a personality. No matter how different we are, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Your personality is partly related to predisposition, but is also shaped by the experiences you gain from your early childhood in contact with others. It happens that a child does not get what it needs. When you become an adult, this can lead to problems in functioning. We then speak of a personality disorder.
