Consultation, expertise and second opinion
The expertise & consultation group of the NPI can be approached for training and consultation questions and second opinion in case of (serious) personality problems.
The NPI is part of Arkin and specializes in the treatment of personality problems. It has expertise in:
- Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT)
- Schema therapy (ST)
- Psychodynamic therapies (including KPSP and TFP)
- Affect Phobia Treatment (AFT)
From the Central Login of Arkin (CAA) there are several possibilities:
Consultation and collegial consultation
You can contact the CAA every working day for collegial consultation. You can call 020-590 5555. Arkin has put together a team of experienced therapists specialized in psychiatry and/or addiction. They assess applications in terms of content and look at which part of Arkin can best treat your patient. In addition, they think along with you about a possible referral.
Consultation and registration team
If you are an Arkin practitioner, you can contact the Consultation and Registration Team (CAT). The NPI practitioners will be happy to discuss the referral of clients with you during the telephone consultation hour for referrers.

Psychiatric/medical consultation
Telephone consultation
As a general practitioner, would you like to ask one of our psychiatrists from the CAA a question by telephone, for example about medication? Then call the CAA on 020-590 5555. Psychiatrists are available there to answer your questions. We do not charge any costs for this consultation.
Teleconsultation mental health care via Zorgdomein
GPs can request a so-called digital 'teleconsultation ggz' via Zorgdomein. As a GP, you can ask your question at any time via Zorgdomein and Arkin's specialists will send an answer or advice about referral, treatment or medication back via Zorgdomein within three days. This costs the GP nothing, the costs are reimbursed by the health insurer.
Caseload Review
We are happy to visit you for a patient meeting in the general practice, where several patients can be discussed.

There are several options from the NPI:
One-time psychiatric consultation NPI
For a psychiatric consultation, general practitioners and mental health professionals can get an opinion from a psychiatrist if psychiatric problems are suspected. Your patient will receive an invitation for a meeting with one of our psychiatrists at one of Arkin's locations. During such a consultation, the patient's condition is assessed, a psychiatric diagnosis is made and/or treatment advice is given.
Second opinion NPI
With a second opinion, you consult another specialist if you have doubts about a previous diagnosis or indicated treatment in the field of (serious) personality problems.
The purpose of a second opinion is to provide additional assurance and confidence in the patient's diagnosis and treatment plan. It can help to identify possible alternative treatments, or to reassure someone that the current plan is the right approach.
A referral is required for a second opinion, and can be requested by a general practitioner, mental health professional or at the request of the patient himself. We would like to receive all relevant medical information about your client in advance. Unfortunately, we cannot process incomplete applications. These are the following documents:
- An overview of the treatment history.
- The correspondence about previous admissions and treatment.
- Information on comorbidity (including substance abuse) and physical disorders.
- Current medication and, if relevant, (response to) medication in history
