Basic course KPSP

The NPI offers a specialized 3-day KPSP course for GZ psychologists, clinical psychologists and psychotherapists, given by experienced KPSP therapists. Get to know the basics of KPSP so that you can apply it in practice.

Short-term Psychoanalytic Supportive Psychotherapy (KPSP) is a short-term, mainly supportive, structured form of psychotherapy. The therapy is based on a relational perspective on six psychoanalytic sub-theories:

  • Drift theory
  • Ego Psychology
  • object relationship theory
  • Self-Psychology
  • Attachment theory
  • primary-love theory

The focus of treatment is on the affective, cognitive and behavioral aspects of the client's functioning in current relationships. The most important therapeutic technique is Adequate Psychoanalytic Support (APS).

Effective treatment method for depression

It has been shown that KPSP is an effective treatment method for outpatient psychiatric patients with depression and personality problems. The efficacy of KPSP has not yet been empirically investigated in other areas, but there is no reason to think that it would be ineffective in other cases of chronic stress-related mental illness.

Objective basic course KPSP

Those who have followed the basic course can apply KPSP under supervision. The student selects clients in his own work environment that he considers suitable for KPSP. Supervision (individually or in groups) of the current course can be arranged in consultation with the teachers. The course provides access to the in-depth KPSP course if desired. In addition, the student acquires knowledge and skills that are applicable in a different and broader context than just KPSP. Ultimately, successfully completing the basic course, the in-depth course, 20 supervision sessions and 10 completed treatments, can lead to membership of the KPSP register of the NVPP.

Duration

The duration of the training is 6 weeks and includes 3 meetings that take place every two weeks.

Education, supervision and team training

Training can be provided in various forms; Think of workshops/training courses or entire courses that can be given in a team.

Intervision focuses on what the team's intervision question is. This is inventoried interactively. Then, on the basis of a clear structure, the problem is ordered and discussed, with the aim of giving the team tools to move on.

Team training is provided on request and tailor-made.

Prize for research into KPSP

Depression can be treated well with short-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy (KPSP). That is the conclusion of a study in which it was compared with cognitive behavioral therapy and in which several NPI practitioners participated. The article about this study was awarded the annual Scientific Paper Prize by the American Psychoanalytic Association.
